How do I install Joomla

  • Joomla is an open source software meaning its free. Its a content management system (C.M.S). You download it from www.joomla.org. You must be running WAMP/LAMP server which contains MySQL, Apache and PHP. You create a database using PhpMyAdmin and launch the installation in a browser: http://localhost/joomla directory. Follow the wizard based installation and your first site will be running. Remember to delete the installation folder after installation


2. How do I register a domain name

  • Domain is your online business name. We make a name search/lookup. If available we either park/register it for you. If unavailable we recommend an option. You must submit your official business name, email address and business location. Registration takes five minutes BUT the domain MUST propagate its information to the dns servers around the globe. This process takes between 12-48 hours. After which you will be able to access your domain name.


3. How do I Login to Cpanel

  • Cpanel stands for Control Panel. It assist in domain administration. After domain registration we send you Cpanel username and password. To login to cpanel use browser as: http://cpanel.domain.com or http://www.domain.com/cpanel or http://www.domain.com:2082 or http://www.domain.com:2083(ssl-enabled). After you are logged in make sure you learn how all the features work BUT dont touch anything if you are not sure. Remember to logout after you are through. Don't give out your logging details to anyone else.


4. How do I create my email account and access them

  • After logging into Cpanel Click on the Email Account icon. This will launch the interface that contains email and password. Fill both and click Ok. The default quota size is 250 MB but you can change it. To access your webmail use a browser as: http://webmail.domain.com or http://www.domain.com/webmail or http://www.domain.com:2095. You can access the mail interface using: roundcube, squirelmail or
  • Remember to logout after you are through.


5. How do I transfer my website from another registrar.

  • Before migrating from your current registrar/hosting make sure that you have done these functions:
  • Backed up your whole website to a local computer or another remote server
  • Download all mails from all email accounts through outlook mail application
  • Have an FTP software in place to avoid inconvenience.
  • After the above you first transfer the hosting to our servers. You authorize your current registrar to change your domain nameservers to point to ours: ns1.secunets.com and ns2.secunets.com.
  • To transfer registrar to us authorize your current registrar to generate an authorization key/EPP code and email it to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . This will enable us to setup the account on our servers immediately. This process takes about one hour if you have no issues with your current registrar. After the propagation is through you can now upload your files and recreate your mail accounts with new password.


6. How do I transfer my Joomla site to your servers

To transfer your hosting and domain registrar follow the above steps. To transfer your joomla site visit joomla transfer.

Follow the steps below:

  • Create a folder on your local computer and download the entire remote folder containing joomla files. Use Filezilla and zip the folder before downloading.
  • Export your database using like PhpMyAdmin into your local computer. It should be database.sql
  • Use Filezilla to upload your local files to the new hosting account.
  • Create a new database and users using the new hosting Cpanel.
  • Modify the configuration.php file to reflect your new database name, username and password.
  • Export the database using PhpMyAdmin from Cpanel.
  • You are through and hit ENTER key to run your OLD SITE in the NEW HOSTING
